What To Give And Transfer To New Owner

Handing over your keys to the new owners is the last step in selling your house. So what should you give and transfer other than the keys?

  • A Clean House

You'll find it will be almost empty, so cleaning is much easier. You don't want to leave behind crumbs in your drawers, a spill in your refrigerator, or dust bunnies in the corner you used to have a couch. You have many things to do, and it's busy. If you don't have the time or energy to sweep the floors, vacuum the carpets, and wipe down the countertops, you might consider hiring a professional cleaning service. It's more than good manners. It's good karma.

  • Owner's Manuals And Warranties

All appliances that are sold with the house must have their owner manuals.

  • Door Openers And Codes

The chances are that the new owner will replace the locks. However, you should still gather keys from family members and friends to ensure everyone has a copy. If applicable, gather any garage door openers and key codes and instructions for changing the codes.

  • Instructions For Operation

It can be very helpful to have a quick explanation of how to adjust your thermostat. While it may seem obvious to someone who has lived in the house for some time, a new homeowner may not be as familiar with these things. You can also disclose any quirks. You've already disclosed any issues. For example, there may be a way to bypass the back gate latch or to connect a bathroom to another bathroom. This information is valuable for the new owner.

  • Here's A List Of Places To Look For Stuff

You can leave a note detailing the location of any items that aren't in use right now, such as patio shades or window screens.

  • Garbage Schedule

What day is garbage pickup for your area? And where can you put the trash can?

  • Information about the neighborhood

Is there a nearby grocery store? Where can you get the best coffee? Do you have neighbors who are the same age as your children? They will appreciate any information that can help them feel at ease. Are you able to recommend a local yard service or contractor? You can leave them numbers or cards with this information.

  • Home Improvement Leftovers

Are you able to save any extra flooring or paint that you don't need for repairs or touch-ups? Perhaps you purchased extra bulbs for your bathroom light fixtures. These bulbs may be worthless to you, but they could be valuable to the new owners. Your agent can verify with the buyer if you are unsure.

  • Thank You For Your Welcome-Home Gift And Letter

Although it is not required or expected, you might want to send a note and a gift to the new owners if you have an emotional connection to your home. Let them know how special it is, and I wish them all the best. They should introduce them to their neighbors, at least in writing. You can give them anything, from a bottle of champagne in the fridge to something more practical like bar soap. It is a thoughtful gesture that can help you say goodbye.
