Community Guidelines

Our Community Guidelines serve as the foundation for acceptable behavior on Nexus. By defining what is and isn’t permissible, we aim to foster a welcoming space where people can share their stories, interact meaningfully, and build strong communities, all while minimizing harmful or disruptive content.

Introduction

Every day, people from around the globe use Nexus to connect with friends and family, share personal experiences, and join communities that align with their interests and passions. Nexus is built to empower individuals to express themselves freely, overcoming cultural, geographical, and language barriers across various forms of media—from written posts to multimedia content.

We recognize that open communication is fundamental to building strong connections. At the same time, we understand our critical role in preventing misuse and harmful behavior on the platform. To maintain this balance, we have set clear guidelines that outline acceptable conduct and content across Nexus.

Our Community Standards are shaped by feedback from our diverse user base and informed by insights from professionals in technology, public safety, mental health, and human rights. We aim to ensure these standards represent a broad range of perspectives and experiences, particularly from communities that are often underrepresented or vulnerable.

Note: The U.S. English version of these Community Standards is the most current and comprehensive set of policies. It should serve as the primary reference when interpreting Nexus standards.

Commitment to Free Expression

The primary aim of our Community Standards is to nurture a space where individuals can express themselves freely and authentically on Nexus. We believe everyone has the right to voice their thoughts on matters important to them, whether through text, images, videos, music, or other creative forms of communication. While some content may provoke disagreement or discomfort, we are committed to safeguarding legitimate expression.

There may be instances where content that typically violates our standards is allowed if it serves the public interest or holds significant news value. Such exceptions are considered after carefully evaluating the societal benefit against the potential risk of harm. We often refer to international human rights principles to guide these decisions. Conversely, content that uses ambiguous or coded language may still be removed if additional context shows it violates our guidelines.

Although we champion freedom of expression, we recognize that the internet can amplify harmful behaviors. Consequently, any limitations we place on content or speech are rooted in one or more of the following core principles:

Trust and Authenticity

We believe that trust and authenticity are essential for meaningful interactions on Nexus. Users should feel confident that the content they engage with is genuine and that individuals are presenting themselves truthfully. Therefore, we prohibit deliberate misrepresentation of identity, intent, or affiliations.

Examples of Unacceptable Behavior:

  • Creating fraudulent profiles to mislead others.

  • Impersonating individuals, organizations, or public figures without clear parody or satirical intent.

  • Sharing altered media designed to deceive or misinform.

Prioritizing Safety and Security

Our unwavering commitment to user safety ensures that Nexus remains a secure environment for all. We actively remove content that presents a credible risk of physical harm or incites violence. Any content aimed at intimidating, threatening, or silencing others—whether explicitly or implicitly—is strictly prohibited.

Examples of Prohibited Content:

  • Explicit threats of violence or harm.

  • Content encouraging self-harm or suicide.

  • Harassment, bullying, or coordinated attacks on individuals or groups.

Protecting Privacy and Personal Information

We are committed to safeguarding user privacy. Nexus provides tools and settings that allow individuals to control how, when, and with whom they share personal information. Protecting privacy not only fosters a sense of security but also supports authentic self-expression.

Examples of Privacy Breaches:

  • Sharing personal contact information without consent.

  • Posting private conversations or confidential documents without permission.

  • Doxxing—exposing sensitive personal information to intimidate or harm.

Fostering Respect and Upholding Human Dignity

We believe every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. On Nexus, we expect users to engage in respectful interactions. Content that demeans, dehumanizes, or disrespects individuals based on identity, beliefs, or characteristics is not tolerated.

Examples of Disrespectful Behavior:

  • Hate speech targeting individuals based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other protected traits.

  • Content that perpetuates stereotypes, slurs, or derogatory remarks.

  • Harassment or abuse directed at vulnerable or marginalized groups.

Application and Scope of Standards

These Community Standards apply universally to all Nexus users, regardless of location or language. They govern all types of content, including but not limited to text, images, videos, audio files, and AI-generated material.

Each section of these standards begins with a “Policy Rationale” explaining the purpose behind the rule. This is followed by specific guidelines detailing:

  1. Prohibited Content:
Content that clearly violates our fundamental principles of trust, safety, privacy, and respect.

  2. Content Subject to Additional Context or Restrictions:
Some content may be allowed under specific circumstances, such as when accompanied by warning labels or limited to adult audiences (18+). We may also require additional context to determine whether particular content breaches our policies.

By following these standards, we aim to create a space on Nexus where diverse voices can thrive, genuine connections can be made, and harmful behavior is minimized. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, we remain committed to refining these standards, guided by community feedback and expert insights.
