Hateful Conduct

Nexus is committed to fostering an environment where people can freely express themselves without fear of being attacked or degraded based on their identity. To maintain a space where individuals feel safe and respected, we prohibit hateful conduct that targets people based on their protected characteristics (PCs).

Protected characteristics include race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, religious affiliation, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, and serious disease. Additionally, age is considered a protected characteristic when referenced alongside another protected characteristic. We also extend protections to refugees, migrants, immigrants, and asylum seekers against the most severe forms of hate speech, while allowing discussion and critique of immigration policies.

We remove dehumanizing speech, slurs, harmful stereotypes, and expressions of contempt, disgust, or exclusion that have historically been used to intimidate, oppress, or incite violence against protected groups. While we recognize that individuals may reclaim slurs or use them in self-referential or empowering ways, we assess the intent and context of such language.

We acknowledge that discussions around sex- and gender-exclusive spaces, religious beliefs, or political topics may involve strong opinions, but our policies aim to distinguish between critical debate and outright hate speech.

Prohibited Content

Nexus separates hate speech into two tiers based on severity:

Tier 1: Most Severe Violations

The following attacks on individuals or groups based on their protected characteristics or immigration status are strictly prohibited:

  • Dehumanizing comparisons to animals, pathogens, or subhuman entities, including:

    • Insects (e.g., cockroaches, locusts).

    • Animals that are culturally linked to inferiority (e.g., comparing Black people to apes, Jewish people to rats, Muslim people to pigs, or Mexican people to worms).

    • Bacteria, viruses, or diseases (e.g., calling a protected group a "plague" or "cancer" on society).

    • Subhuman descriptors (e.g., calling individuals "savages," "monsters," or "devils").

  • Accusations of serious immorality or criminality, including:

    • Labeling groups as sexual predators or pedophiles (e.g., claims that a specific religious group engages in sexual abuse).

    • Labeling groups as violent criminals or terrorists (e.g., calling all members of a nationality murderers).

  • Harmful wishes or threats, including:

    • Hopes for a person or group to contract a disease, suffer an accident, or experience death (excluding specific violent threats, which fall under our Violence and Incitement policy).

    • Hopes for self-injury or suicide directed at a person or group.

    • Wishes for a natural disaster to harm people based on their protected characteristic.

  • Harmful stereotypes historically linked to oppression, intimidation, or violence, including:

    • Blackface depictions.

    • Holocaust denial or claims that Jewish people control financial, political, or media institutions.

    • References to Dalits as menial laborers.

    • Comparing Black individuals to farm equipment.

  • Mocking the concept, events, or victims of hate crimes, even if no specific person is depicted.

  • Mocking or degrading individuals for having a serious disease.

  • Using slurs to attack a person or group based on a protected characteristic, unless the slur is clearly used in a self-referential or reclaimed manner.

Tier 2: Additional Prohibited Attacks

The following insults, expressions of contempt, and calls for exclusion are prohibited when directed at individuals or groups based on protected characteristics:

  • Calls for exclusion or segregation, including:

    • General exclusion (e.g., "No [protected group] allowed!").

    • Political exclusion, such as denying political participation, advocating for incarceration, or calling for the loss of political rights.

    • Economic exclusion, such as denying jobs or economic entitlements based on protected characteristics (exceptions exist for religious beliefs concerning gender-based roles in military, law enforcement, and education).

    • Social exclusion, such as denying access to physical or online spaces, support groups, or essential services.

  • Severe insults based on personal characteristics, including:

    • Allegations of cowardice, dishonesty, criminality, or sexual promiscuity.

    • Derogatory claims about intelligence, mental illness, or inherent inferiority.

    • Unfounded claims that a protected group is mentally unstable or dangerous (exceptions exist for discussions of transgender identity or sexual orientation within religious or political discourse).

    • Insults implying worthlessness, ugliness, filth, or causing sickness (e.g., "You make me vomit" in reference to a protected group).

  • Targeted cursing, including:

    • Explicit use of "fuck" or its variations as an insult toward a protected group (e.g., "Fuck the [Protected Characteristic]!").

    • Phrases that invoke sexual acts, bodily functions, or contact with genitalia in an insulting way (e.g., "suck my dick," "eat shit," "kiss my ass" in reference to a protected group).

Prohibited Services And Ideologies:

Nexus removes content that promotes, offers, or provides:

  • Conversion therapy or attempts to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • Hate-based ideologies that encourage violence, intimidation, or discrimination against protected groups.

Contextual Considerations And Satirical Content:

We recognize that some discussions involve:

  • Criticism of institutions, ideologies, or political beliefs associated with protected characteristics (e.g., religious or political discourse).

  • Satirical content that mocks hate speech rather than spreading it.

However, such content will only be permitted if it does not:

  • Incite physical harm, intimidation, or discrimination.

  • Exploit periods of heightened tension (e.g., elections, ongoing conflicts, recent violence against a protected group).

  • Come from individuals or entities with authority that could amplify harmful effects.

Policy Enforcement And Monitoring:

Nexus enforces this policy using a combination of AI detection, human moderation, and user reporting systems. Our enforcement measures include:

  • Removing content that directly violates this policy.

  • Restricting access to content that may require additional context.

  • Banning accounts and groups that repeatedly engage in hate speech.

Policy Amendments And Updates:

This policy is subject to continuous review in response to legal developments, societal changes, and evolving hate speech trends. Any updates take effect immediately upon posting.

For reporting violations, requesting content removal, or seeking additional information, contact legal@nexus.realestate.

This document is comprehensive and should not be altered or summarized in a way that misrepresents its intent. Every provision is essential to ensuring that Nexus remains a platform free from hate, discrimination, and intimidation.
